Tarlac placed under ‘State of Calamity’

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac — Governor Christian Yap announced that the entire province of Tarlac is now under a ‘State of Calamity.’

The province has been battered by monsoon rains in recent weeks, flooding several towns and destroying two bridges in Tarlac City.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan formalized the declaration during a special session on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Vice Governor Estelita Aquino presided over the session, where the board unanimously approved Resolution No. 416-2026 upon the recommendation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) through Resolution No. 4, series of 2026. Board Member Henry Cruz sponsored the motion, which was unanimously seconded.

Yap acknowledged the heavy burden borne by residents.

“Alam natin ang bigat ng dinaranas ng ating mga kababayan—mula sa nasirang mga pananim at kabuhayan, hanggang sa pagkapinsala ng mahahalagang daanan tulad ng Ninoy Aquino Bridge at Agana Bridge,” Yap posted on social media.

He stressed that the declaration enables the provincial government to immediately mobilize funds for accelerated relief operations, infrastructure repairs, and assistance for affected families.

“Sa panahong ito ng pagsubok, walang Tarlaqueñong maiiwan,” Yap stated, calling on the public to stay safe, alert, and united in recovery.

The continuous downpours have triggered severe flooding and rain-induced hazards across local areas, rendering major thoroughfares impassable and disrupting transportation, essential services, and economic activities throughout the province.
