TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (February 5, 2024) — Tarlac’s 1st Congressional District Representative Jaime Cojuangco was the only House member from the province who voted to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte.
Cojuangco was among the 215 of the 306 lawmakers who supported the impeachment. In the Lower House, only 102 votes are needed to impeach the Vice President.
The voting was dominated by allies of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Cojuangco is a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition, a party closely allied with the president’s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.
It is not clear whether Rep. Christian Yap of the 2nd District of Tarlac and Rep. Noel Rivera of the 3rd District were present on the last day of Congress before a three-month break to make way for the mid-term elections or what their votes were.
