Vic Yap confirms return to politics

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (July 27, 2023) — Former governor Vic Yap confirmed to the media yesterday that he will likely run for office in 2025.

“Malaki ang chance na tatakbo ako ulit,” Yap, told members of the Prime Alliance of Publishers, Editors, and Reporters here during the media group’s special meeting called by Chapter President Ronjie Daquigan to discuss upcoming activities.

The two-time Tarlac 2nd District Congressional Representative also said that he is still unsure of what position he will be running for in two years.

“But what position di ko pa iniisip. Matagal pa iyan. Baka kailangang maghilom muna ang mga away-away,” the well-spoken Yap said enigmatically.

It is widely expected that the Yaps of San Jose and Victoria towns will be running against the Angeles family of this city. Three-term city mayor Cristy Angeles is testing the waters for a congressional or gubernatorial run while her husband, Vic, will be running for city mayor.

“I think the party needs me. Party member pa rin naman ako. Yung break ko naman nun di ko naman sinabing magre-retire ako – just a break,” Yap said.

Last year, Yap took a break from politics. His nephew, Christian Yap, took his place and won handily as 2nd District Congressional Representative.
