Mendoza named new TSU prexy

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (May 5, 2026) — Tarlac State University (TSU) officially entered a new chapter tonight, May 5, 2026, as Jasper Jay Mendoza took his oath of office at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as the seventh president of the institution.

Mendoza bested four other prominent candidates for the position: Niño Corpuz, Robert Marcos, Agnes Macaraeg, and Marlon Gamido.

The search process, which had previously faced legal hurdles involving a former applicant, moved forward last month after a local court declined to issue a preliminary injunction, allowing the TSU Board of Regents to proceed with the selection from the remaining five finalists.

The evaluation included a public forum and a panel interview held at the TSU Main AVR on May 1, where he laid out a comprehensive roadmap for the university’s future.

The newly elected president brings a wealth of institutional knowledge to the office, having recently served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs from July 2025 to May 2026. Before his vice presidency, he served as dean of the College of Education for 7 years, from 2018 to 2025.

Mendoza is set to serve a four-year term, officially beginning his duties on May 6, 2026, and continuing through 2030.
