San Clemente illuminates community with SGLG-funded streetlights

SAN CLEMENTE, Tarlac (Jan. 19, 2026) — The Local Government Unit (LGU) of San Clemente in Tarlac has officially launched a new streetlight project, enhancing safety and visibility along a key barangay road. Funded through the Fiscal Year 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance Incentive Fund (SGLG-IF), the initiative saw the installation of 28 streetlights in Barangay Catagudingan.

The project was inaugurated on January 14, 2026, led by Mayor Roseller M. Toledo. During the ceremony, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator Engr. Ariel P. Cristobal emphasized that the Seal of Good Local Governance reflects collective effort and accountability. He stated, “Kapag ginalingan, tao ang makikinabang.”

DILG Provincial Director Martin Porres B. Moral, CESO V, drew inspiration from a recent television show, sharing the phrase “Let the people see us,” which he reinterpreted as “Let the people see San Clemente.” He noted that such projects make governance visible and strengthen public trust.

DILG Regional Director Araceli A. San Jose, CESO III, highlighted that the project goes beyond mere infrastructure compliance. She described it as “infrastructure with compliance and purpose,” underscoring its role in demonstrating genuine care for residents, including parents, drivers, and commuters.

From a security standpoint, PMAJ Randie P. Niegos, Chief of Police of San Clemente, affirmed that improved street lighting directly supports law enforcement by helping prevent crime and maintain peace and order in the barangay.

In his closing remarks, Mayor Toledo expressed gratitude to all involved in the project’s implementation and thanked the Department of the Interior and Local Government for its continued guidance and support.

The newly illuminated stretch along Romulo Highway is expected to benefit approximately 13,000 residents, providing safer passage day and night. The project stands as a testament to San Clemente’s commitment to good governance, community safety, and responsive public service.
