CAPAS, Tarlac (April 18, 2025) — Six international teams have confirmed their participation in the ICTSI Philippine Athletics Championships 2025, set to take place from May 1 to 4 at the New Clark City here.
Reli de Leon, special assistant to Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association president Terry Capistrano, announced that the event will feature teams from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, India, and Papua New Guinea.
This competition will serve as a qualifying event for the national track and field team that will compete in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December.
“The event serves as the basis for the selection of our national team to the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand in December so we expect the best performances from them,” said De Leon.
The tournament will also help determine the composition of the Under-18 team for the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain this October.
World Athletics recognizes the championships as a Category B event. They are expected to be highly competitive, with foreign athletes vying for ranking points ahead of the World Championships in Japan this September.
Events will be held from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM to avoid the extreme heat. Around 800 athletes are expected to participate in the tournament.
The ICTSI Philippine Athletics Championships 2025 in Tarlac is shaping up to be a major sporting spectacle, drawing elite competitors and serving as a crucial stepping stone for regional and international competitions.
