Panadero and multi-awarded writer donates school building

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (October 12, 2024) — An entrepreneur, writer, and philanthropist donated a school building to the Sinait Integrated School (SIS) here yesterday morning in celebration of the 10th annual World Pandesal Day.

Kamuning Bakery CafƩ owner Wilson Lee Flores and the Tarlac Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, turned over the two-classroom building to the SIS to help the institution accept more students.

Flores, the winner of 15 Catholic Mass Media Awards and three Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, also owns the 85-year-old Kamuning Bakery CafƩ in Quezon City and said that he has a soft spot for TarlaqueƱos.

“My mother was a teacher at Bayanihan Institute here in Tarlac and this is just my small contribution to the community. Education is the best way to help people,” Flores said.

Also gracing the turnover ceremonies were Tarlac Second Congressional District Representative Christian Yap, city vice mayor Genaro Mendoza, councilors Emy Ladera-Facunla, Vladimir Rodriguez, Ricky Diolazo, Ato Chua, and Winwin Manalang.

The World Pandesal Day is celebrated on October 16 each year.

According to Flores, the inspiration for #WorldPandesalDay stems from the Biblical story of a young boy who shared his five loaves of bread and two fishes, which Jesus Christ miraculously multiplied to feed thousands.

“This event reminds us that even the simplest gestures of sharing can bring hope and inspire change. Together, let us help combat hunger,” Flores said.
