TARLAKENYO (August 6, 2024) — Google has officially unveiled its latest streaming device, the Google TV Streamer, marking a substantial upgrade from its predecessor, the Chromecast with Google TV.
The Google TV Streamer is equipped with a faster processor in the Amlogic S905X5 and double the RAM, users can expect smoother app launches, quicker navigation, and improved overall performance. The new device also comes with four times internal storage (from 8 GB to 32 GB), providing ample space for apps and cached data.
A standout feature of the Google TV Streamer is its enhanced smart home integration. The Streamer will serve as a central hub for controlling compatible smart devices. Unlike the Chromecast, which requires additional devices for comprehensive smart home management, the Streamer offers seamless control directly from the TV remote.
There is also Bluetooth 5.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11ac – yes, it is two generations removed from Wi-Fi 7.
The Google TV Streamer will likely be priced at around P6,000 when it is released in the Philippines – double the price of the 2020 Chromecast with Google TV 4K which is currently sold for P2,800 – P3,000.
The device is now available for pre-order and is expected to hit stores in late September. Expect the gray market stores in the Philippines to sell these shortly after that.
