GERONA, Tarlac (Nov. 30, 2023) — A three-term barangay chairwoman here and her husband were both shot and killed by still unknown assailants in Brgy. San Juan in Ramos town.
Barangay Plastado Punong Barangay Edita Zarzuela and her husband Edgar were riding their mountain bikes early this morning when two men on a motorcycle shot at them. Both died on the spot with gunshot wounds to their chests. Cal. 45 casings were recovered from the scene.
Ramos town police chief Maj. Marvin Mara said that the incident happened around 7:20 this morning. The suspects fled southwards towards Barangay Carbonel after the shootings. Barangays Plastado and San Juan are adjoining villages in the eastern part of Tarlac Province.
The killings coincided with the intensified “anti-criminality checkpoints” in Ramos town for crime prevention.
Edgar just celebrated his 68th birthday two days ago.
Police are still investigating the shooting incident and no possible motives were given.
