Dueg residents train in making bamboo novelty items

SAN CLEMENTE, Tarlac (Nov. 22, 2023) — Some 20 residents of Sitio Dueg here completed their Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-sponsored skills training on bamboo novelty item making.

DTI OIC-Provincial Director Florencia Balilo said that the training aims to hone the skills of the Dueg Resettlement Entrepreneurs and Marketing members.

ā€œWe would like to prepare the community for the envisioned Dueg Artisanal Craft Village which would provide a venue to showcase the traditional skills, crafts, and tribal practices of the indigenous peoples of Dueg,ā€ Balilo said.

The skills training involved learning the techniques of creating bamboo keychains and refrigerator magnets – including the process of cutting, skin scraping, sizing, sanding, designing, painting, and coating.

DTI Tarlac provides skills training to various sectors in the province to improve the quality of their products, widen their market reach, enhance their skills in business management, and encourage more potential entrepreneurs to venture into the business field.
