SM promotes Sustainable Agriculture through Urban Gardening

As a steadfast advocate of green and sustainable living, SM Supermalls, through its corporate social responsibility arm, SM Foundation Inc., gears to support the government’s food security agenda through Urban Gardening.

The program is in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Tourism, SM Markets, SM Supermalls, St. Isidore “The Farmer” Learning Center, Inc., and Tarlac City Government.

Tarlac City Councilor KT Angeles graced the event and gave encouragement and support to the participants from Brgy. San Roque.

Twenty-Five participants will undergo a 14-week training to be trained by urban gardening trainer Ms. Emmma Tolentino. SM mall garden will be utilized as a potential venue for hands-on training to showcase various urban garden agriculture techniques. On the other hand, SMFI will provide supplies and materials for barangay demo garden and start-up home materials.

The program aims to provide alternative livelihood opportunities and modern planting techniques that will enable improved and quality produce – which their families may consume at home or sell as a source of extra income.
