Tarlac Province celebrates 153rd founding anniversary

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (May 29, 2026) — The Province of Tarlac commemorated its 153rd founding anniversary on May 28, a special non-working holiday declared under Proclamation No. 109 signed by former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada, allowing Tarlaqueños to honor their rich cultural heritage and historical milestones.

The day-long celebration at the Tarlac Capitol began with a flag raising ceremony, where Governor Christian Yap delivered a message emphasizing the unity, resilience, and progress of the people of Tarlac over more than a century and a half. In his speech, he stated:

“Ipinagdiriwang natin ang anibersaryo natin dahil umuusbong ang progreso sa ating probinsya. Bilang mga kawani ng gobyerno, tayo ang nagdadala ng progreso, tayo ang nagmo-monitor, tayo ang nagdidirekta sa tamang progreso na maidala sa ating probinsya.”

The ceremony also coincided with the annual National Flag Day, where officials highlighted the importance of honoring the Philippine flag.

A Holy Mass followed, attended by Tarlac veterans, provincial officials, and government employees, offering gratitude for the province’s continued development.

Renowned historian Dr. Lino Dizon also shared insights, presenting key concepts from Tarlac’s history—from its spirit of independence to the present day.

One of the most well-received activities was a free legal consultation, allowing Tarlaqueños to seek advice from provincial lawyers on various legal concerns at no cost.

Joining the celebration were Vice Governor Lita Aquino, alongside Board Members Pearl Pacada, Harmes Sembrano, Tootsie Cruz, Casada David, and Joy Lamorena.

The morning also featured a Fun Run organized by the Provincial Government of Tarlac, aimed at promoting better health and physical well-being among residents.

The series of activities were designed to give thanks, recognize history, and strengthen public service for the welfare of every Tarlaqueño and the future of the province.
