TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (May 28, 2026) — She walked onto the pool deck as the underdog and left as a record-breaker. Eleven-year-old Meadow Frances Harrison of Tarlac City delivered the kind of performance that defines the spirit of the Palarong Pambansa, not just winning, but rewriting history when it mattered most.
The Grade 5 student from Creston Academy, representing Region 3 (Central Luzon), stunned the swimming competition on May 27, Wednesday at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Governor Democrito O. Plaza Memorial Sports Complex.
In the Girls Under 12 and Under 50-meter Long Course Breaststroke Elementary event, Harrison touched the wall in a blazing 35.80 seconds, obliterating the previous Palarong Pambansa record of 36.28 seconds set in 2023.
But the gold medal wasn’t just a personal triumph. It was a statement.
Entering the race, all eyes were on Bicol Region’s Riley Alindogan, who had already amassed five gold medals and was heavily favored to claim her sixth. Alindogan had been nearly untouchable all week, ruling the 400-m freestyle, 100-m breaststroke, 200-m freestyle, 200-m individual medley, and anchoring the 4×50-meter medley relay.
Harrison, however, refused to be intimidated.
“It feels good. I thought I couldn’t do it,” the soft-spoken but fierce 11-year-old admitted after her victory.
“When I saw Riley, she really looked strong, and when I saw the papers, I saw that she could finish in 36 seconds. I got motivated to beat her time.”
And beat it she did. Alindogan settled for silver with 36.84 seconds, while Harrison’s record-breaking 35.80 etched her name into Palarong Pambansa lore.
“I kind of expected it. It was more of a 50-50 since I kind of felt it and kind of didn’t feel it,” Harrison said, reflecting on her mindset heading into the race. “That’s why I am so happy to break the record. I am very hungry to get a medal.”
That hunger yielded a full haul. Aside from her historic gold, Harrison also bagged a silver medal in the 100-meter Breaststroke and a bronze in the 4x50m Medley Relay, cementing her status as one of Central Luzon’s brightest young aquatic stars.
For Alindogan, the loss was a rare blemish on an otherwise dominant campaign. She still has one remaining team event scheduled for Thursday, where she could add to her five-gold collection. But on this day, the pool belonged to the 11-year-old from Tarlac.
Creston Academy, Inc. celebrated their young champion shortly after the win: “Congratulations to Meadow Frances Harrison for breaking the Girls 12 & Under 50 LC Meter Breaststroke Elementary Record with an outstanding time of 35.80 seconds! We are so proud of you!”
At just 11 years old, Harrison has already proven she belongs on the biggest stage. And if her composure beyond her years is any indication, this won’t be the last time her name appears in the record books.
