PURA, Tarlac (May 3, 2026) — The province of Tarlac stood tall last night as its beloved representative, Marian Arellano from Pura, Tarlac, delivered a stunning performance at the Miss Universe Philippines 2026 coronation night held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, securing a coveted spot in the Top 7.
Out of 30 semifinalists who made it to the highly anticipated finale, Arellano carved her name among the country’s most beautiful and brilliant, finishing alongside an elite group of delegates from Sultan Kudarat, Cebu City, Taguig City, Cebu Province, Pampanga, and La Union.
This Top 7 finish marks the highest placement achieved by a Tarlakenyo in the national pageant’s history, surpassing last year’s representative Sasha Lacuna, who ended her journey in the Top 24.
A Night of Glamour and Grit
The evening saw the Top 30 delegates battle through the swimsuit round, which narrowed the field to 15, followed by the evening gown competition that determined the Final 7. Arellano, representing Tarlac under the Miss Universe Philippines banner, stood tall through each cut.
For the evening gown segment, Arellano donned a masterpiece by renowned Filipino couturier Rian Fernandez, the same designer behind Miss Universe 2022 winner R’Bonney Gabriel’s iconic gown.
Fernandez created for Marian a fully handcrafted gown inspired by the traditional Filipino Barong. The piece featured intricate hand embroidery, delicate glass crystals, and a flowing white silk shawl, paying tribute to Tarlac’s rich heritage and craftsmanship.
A Heartfelt Answer from a Daughter of Tarlac
The defining moment came during the final question-and-answer round, where the remaining candidates were asked:
“Many Filipinos are getting frustrated with the country. For you, why is it still worth representing the Philippines on the global stage?”
Arellano, drawing from her own life, answered with quiet strength:
“I grew up with an OFW mother and my father is a security guard. With this, I learned to be independent. So, as a representative of the Philippines on the international stage, I will bring a story that inspires and I will speak up to other people. And I believe this independency molded me as an empowered Filipina. Because an empowered Filipina has the light that empowers and forces the universe. Thank you so much.”
Her response drew applause from the audience, though the crown ultimately went to La Union’s Bea Millan-Windorski, whose own moving answer about balikbayan boxes and creating local opportunities sealed her victory.
The other Top 7 finalists — Jenrose Javier of Sultan Kudarat, Apriel Smith of Cebu City, Ysabella Ysmael of Taguig City, Nicole Borromeo of Cebu Province, and Allyson Hetland of Pampanga — also delivered remarkable performances throughout the evening.
A Record-Breaking Run for Tarlac
Marian Arellano came into the national competition as Binibining Kanlahi 2025, a provincial pageant titleholder from Pura. Her advocacy, “Empowering Rural Youth Through Education and Digital Opportunities,” rooted in her own experience growing up in rural Tarlac, resonated throughout the competition.
What’s Next?
While the new Miss Universe Philippines 2026 — Bea Millan-Windorski — will go on to represent the country at Miss Universe 2026 in Puerto Rico, succeeding Ahtisa Manalo (who placed 3rd runner-up in the last Miss Universe edition), the national organization has yet to announce the runners-up and other The Miss Philippines titles. As of press time, no details have been released on when or where these auxiliary crowns will be awarded.
But for Tarlac, the star of the night was already clear. Marian Arellano, the empowered Filipina from Pura — proved that even without the crown, a province’s pride can light up the universe.
