Tarlac LGUs preemptively cancel classes, work for Monday as “Supertyphoon Uwan” looms

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (Nov. 7, 2025) – Several local government units (LGUs) in Tarlac province have announced the preemptive suspension of classes for all levels this Monday, Nov. 10, 2025, in anticipation of the potential impacts of the approaching supertyphoon “Uwan.”

The move follows a directive from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) ordering LGUs to complete the mandatory evacuation of residents in high-risk areas by Sunday.

As of Friday afternoon, Tarlac City, Concepcion, and Gerona have all confirmed class suspensions for both public and private schools.

Tarlac City Mayor Susan Yap announced the suspension of classes and work in government offices, following the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

Similarly, Concepcion Mayor Noel Villanueva and Gerona Mayor May Eclar both suspended classes based on the recommendations of their respective Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (MDRRMCs).

Mayor Eclar urged constituents to “stay alert and be careful,” a sentiment echoed by Mayor Villanueva, who advised the public to be cautious of the incoming storm’s effects.

Preparations are underway across the province.

In Capas, Mayor Roseller “Boots” Rodriguez took a proactive step by issuing Executive Order No. 43, which mandates all Barangay Captains to activate their Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees (BDRRMCs).

Meanwhile, Bamban Mayor Jose Mallari Salting Jr. reported that an Orange Rainfall Warning is expected for Tarlac from Sunday to Monday. His administration has already conducted an emergency coordination meeting with barangay officials, the MDRRMO, and other key response units to ensure a state of readiness.
