Tarlac braces for Super Typhoon ‘Pepito’

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (November 17, 2024) — As Super Typhoon ‘Pepito’ makes its second landfall in Aurora and barrels towards Central Luzon, the province of Tarlac is on high alert, with disaster preparedness measures in full swing.

Governor Susan Yap has ordered the activation of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), putting all response teams on standby. Evacuation centers have been prepared and are ready to receive residents from low-lying areas and those living in vulnerable structures.

The PDRRMC has prepositioned relief goods, medical supplies, and rescue equipment in strategic locations throughout the province. Personnel from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) are also on standby to provide assistance to evacuees.

Meanwhile, the PSWDO, assisted by the 3rd Mech Infantry Battalion ng Philippine Army at Philippine Airlines Force-Tactical Operations Group 3, relocated some indigenous peoples (IPs) living underneath the Aquino Bridge. They were brought to the Provincial Government of Tarlac Evacuation Center in Barangay San Isidro.

They were rescued after a Facebook post circulated online about the IPs calling the Aquino underbridge home.

The governor issued Executive Order No. 26 earlier today suspending classes in all levels in both public and private schools and work in government offices in the Province of Tarlac tomorrow, November 18, 2024.
