LTO suspends Tarlac driving school for issuing fake certificates

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (October 14, 2024) — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended a driving school here for 30 days due to its alleged involvement in the fraudulent certificate issuance.

LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, said that driving schools and accredited medical clinics must avoid illegal activities that endanger road safety. He initiated a full investigation after receiving reports about the questionable practices of certain driving schools. Mendoza also extended the investigation to cover LTO-accredited medical clinics suspected of issuing fake medical certificates.

“This is part of our intensified campaign against fixers. We cannot allow these schemes to continue because road usersā€™ safety is at risk,” said Mendoza.

LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division, led by Chief Renante Melitante, deployed undercover clients to investigate. At MCSY Driving School in San Sebastian, Tarlac, an undercover agent obtained a Theoretical Driving Course without appearing for the required sessions, with assistance from an instructor.

The driving school has been issued a Show Cause Order, demanding explanations for their actions.

This crackdown is part of the Department of Transportation’s push to ensure that only qualified individuals are granted driver’s licenses.

Mendoza warned that any driving schools or medical clinics engaging in fraudulent activities could face permanent closure.

“This should serve as a stern warning. We wonā€™t hesitate to shut them down, as the safety of all road users is at stake,” he said.

More operations and investigations are planned as the LTO continues to target driving schools and clinics involved in illegal practices.
