TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (July 11, 2023) — Lawyers and journalists attended the by invitation only seminar on evidence gathering by a renowned digital forensic expert and a high-profile forensic pathologist.
Titled Seminar on Evidence Gathering and Preservation, the discussion was attended by about 100 lawyers, journalists, and Criminology and Law students from several Central Luzon provinces at the Diwa ng Tarlak Conference Room.
Atty. Floyd Tiongson focused his talk on digital forensics, Open Data Source, and the Berkeley Protocol on digital open source investigations. He cautioned journalists and lawyers about what data they share and how to prevent being tracked digitally.
The renowned Dr. Raquel Fortun, one of the country’s only two forensic pathologists, meanwhile, discussed forensic pathology and the Minnesota Protocol – a set of international guidelines for the investigation of suspicious deaths, particularly those in which the responsibility of a State is suspected.
Dr. Fortun – often at odds with the media for their involvement in investigations – decries the sorry state of the Philippine “medico-legal” and the loopholes when it comes to autopsies.
The seminar was funded by the European Union and supported by the National Union of People’s Lawyers, the National Council of Churches of the Philippines, and HUSTISYA. The seminar was hosted by Atty. Jo Clemente.
