BAMBAN, Tarlac — The Rotary Club of Angeles and the municipal government of Bamban broke ground on October 6 for Rotary Homes Bamban, a free housing project for underprivileged families, and signed a memorandum of agreement formalizing the partnership.
The project will rise on a 7-hectare lot in Barangay Lourdes and will consist of 500 housing units complete with basic community facilities, including a health center, market, school, and library.
The initiative is a collaboration of Rotary International District 3790 (Philippines) and District 3590 (South Korea), in partnership with the Municipality of Bamban headed by Mayor Jose Salting Jr., with the full support of District Governor Ronald Dy.
The project was initiated by the Rotary Club of Angeles, the host club, under President Sangwoo (David) Kim, RY 2026–2027. As host club, the Rotary Club of Angeles coordinated with partners and worked hand in hand with the District and the Municipality of Bamban to make the project possible.
“Our Rotary District 3790 and then Korea Rotary District 3590 and then Bamban municipality, so we are three party this Rotary Homes development,” Kim told One Balita Central Luzon.
Dy said the housing units will be funded by Rotary districts in Korea, specifically District 3590, describing the undertaking as a socialized housing project for residents of Bamban.
“Yung project na ito, yung mga magfa-fund nitong housing unit na ito mga galing sa Korea, yung iba’t-ibang district sa Korea, specifically yung District 3590 ng Korea,” Dy said.
Mayor Salting said priority will be given to Bamban residents without homes, particularly those from Barangay Lourdes, where the project is located.
“Makikinabang dito yung talagang taga-Bamban na wala silang tirahan… Pero prayoridad natin sila, pero siyempre prayoridad yung Barangay Lourdes dahil Barangay Lourdes ‘to,” Salting said.
Organizers said the partnership is building not only a home but also stronger connections between communities and Rotarians across borders.
The groundbreaking marks only the beginning, they said, expressing hope that the project will become “a place where a family can feel safe, secure, and hopeful for a better future.”
