PANIQUI, Tarlac — The Municipality of Paniqui has been officially placed under a State of Calamity following the declaration of Resolution No. 084, Series of 2026, on August 29, in response to the widespread flooding caused by the Southwest Monsoon, locally known as Habagat.
The declaration, recommended by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), aims to strengthen the local government’s disaster response capabilities and facilitate the swift delivery of assistance to affected communities.
Mayor Kat Roxas, in a public address, acknowledged the hardships faced by Paniqueño families in recent days, many of whom have been displaced, have seen their homes flooded, or have suffered from disrupted livelihoods.
“Hindi ito panahon ng politika. Hindi ito panahon ng pansariling interes,” Mayor Roxas stated. “This is a time for unity. This is a time for compassion. This is a time for genuine service.“
The Mayor directed all barangay officials to ensure that disaster funds are utilized responsibly, transparently, and in accordance with the law, emphasizing that aid must reach the families who need it most—without discrimination or favoritism.
“We will not face this challenge divided,” Roxas assured. “We are one. We are Paniqueño. And it is our duty to protect one another.“
The local government continues to coordinate with barangay authorities and concerned offices to monitor affected areas, assess urgent needs, and ensure that assistance is delivered efficiently to affected residents. The public is urged to remain vigilant, follow official advisories, and coordinate with their respective barangays.
In a statement, the Municipal Government reiterated that in times of disaster, public service must rise above political differences and personal interests.
“Sa panahon ng sakuna, walang kulay ng politika,” the statement read. “We have one duty: to serve the Paniqueño.“
As the municipality continues to face the effects of the weather disturbance, local officials called for cooperation and unity among government agencies, community organizations, and residents to ensure that no Paniqueño is left behind.
“People first. Protect every family. No one left behind.”
