GERONA, Tarlac — The Municipality of Gerona has made history by becoming the first town in Region III to officially partner with Khan Academy Philippines.
On July 8, 2026, local officials, school heads, and education leaders gathered for the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement brings together Khan Academy Philippines, the Department of Education, and the local government of Gerona in a shared mission to give every student access to quality, technology-driven education.
This move proves true to Gerona’s slogan, “Ito ang Bayan ng Nangunguna—Bayan ng Gerona,” which means this is a town that leads.
P6 Million for Better Learning
The municipal government has set aside an initial P6 million to support the program. The fund will be used to buy devices for students, train teachers, improve internet connection, and make classrooms more conducive to learning.
Through this partnership, students will have free access to world-class digital learning materials, especially in Math. Teachers will also learn new tools to make their lessons more engaging and suited to each student’s needs.
Strong Support from Schools
The program received overwhelming support from public schools in Gerona. All 50 school heads attended the signing ceremony to show their commitment.
The Gerona North District recorded full participation, with all 24 public schools joining the program. The Gerona South District had 15 schools on board, and more are expected to sign up. In total, 39 public schools have committed to implementing the program.

Mayor May Eclar expressed her pride in the achievement and reaffirmed the town’s dedication to education.
“Today marks another proud achievement for the Municipality of Gerona as we officially signed the Memorandum of Agreement for the implementation of the Khan Academy Program in our public schools,” the mayor said.
She added, “This landmark initiative makes Gerona the first municipality in Region III to establish this partnership, reaffirming our commitment to providing innovative, technology-driven, and world-class learning opportunities for every Gerona learner.”

Through Khan Academy’s platform, students and teachers can access learning materials that are recognized worldwide. The program aims to help students excel academically and prepare them for the future.
