Homecoming artists showcase ‘Point of Origin’ at Diwa ng Tarlac

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (March 11, 2026) — A new exhibition titled “Point of Origin” is now open at the Diwa ng Tarlac, featuring the unique works of renowned local artists Ayen Quias and Noel Nicolas.

The exhibit, which opened on March 6, is being described as an “artistic homecoming” for the couple, whose work is inspired by their experiences in Europe. It offers visitors a chance to see a range of pieces, from colorful abstracts to detailed figurative works.

Officials from the provincial government attended the opening ceremony to show their support. Among those present were Vice Governor Lita Aquino, Board Members Joy Gilbert Lamorena and Pearl Pacada, and City Councilor Joji David.

The exhibition is made possible through the support of the Tarlac Provincial Government, led by Governor Christian Yap and Vice Governor Aquino, and is managed by the Tarlac Tourism office.

A Welcome for Art and Community

The opening night was a well-attended celebration of creativity. Organizers expressed their gratitude to everyone who came, including former Governor Margarita ‘Tingting’ Cojuangco, Vice Governor Aquino, Tourism Chairperson Pearl E. Pacada, Board Member Joy Lamorena, and Pura, Tarlac Mayor Epoy Balmores.

For those who missed the opening, the exhibit remains open for visitation. The public is invited to witness the creativity of the Filipino artists on display.

Meet the Artists Behind the Works

Noel Nicolas, a native of Pura, Tarlac, is known for his move from realistic landscapes to a distinctive style of abstract and contemporary sculpture. A graduate of the University of the East, he worked as a graphic designer for 14 years before becoming a full-time artist in 2015.

His work often features black figures combined with wood, exploring themes of human transformation and our connection to nature. His art has gained international attention, with exhibits at the famous Carrousel du Louvre in Paris and on a billboard in New York’s Times Square.

In 2024, he and his partner, Ayen Quias, won second prize at an international art exhibition in Venice. He also co-founded the Contemporary Art Movement of the Philippines (CAMP) to help support other artists in the region.

Ayen Quias, originally from Santiago City, Isabela, and now based in Pura, Tarlac, is a painter and wood collage artist. After studying architecture, she developed a unique style of transforming reclaimed wood scraps into detailed, vibrant scenes.

Her famous “Ayen’s Little Town” series, which features small, colorful houses, was created as a symbol of hope during the pandemic. She is also known for her “Cheeks on Fleek” painting series, which she considers a form of self-portrait.

Like her partner, her work has been featured internationally at the Louvre in Paris and on a Times Square billboard. Along with Noel Nicolas, she co-founded CAMP in 2016. Her art focuses on finding harmony and order in life through what she calls “complex simplicity.”

Quias and Nicolas are not only artistic partners but also a couple. They are often celebrated as a dynamic duo in the Philippine art scene, supporting each other in their creative journeys.

The “Point of Origin” exhibit will be on display at the Diwa ng Tarlac until March 27. Admission is free.

Good news for art lovers: The museum has extended its hours. Diwa ng Tarlac is now open from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday to Thursday. This gives visitors more time to experience the meaningful artworks of these two remarkable Filipino artists.
