SY lays out vision for Tarlac City

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (June 28, 2025) – Incoming Mayor Susan Yap has unveiled her comprehensive initial plans for Tarlac City, promising a transformative administration focused on the needs of its citizens.

With her term set to begin, Yap emphasized a people-centric approach, aiming to tackle long-standing issues and introduce new initiatives to improve the quality of life for all Tarlaqueños.

“Our governance should be focused on the people, not the government or whoever is in power,” Yap declared in an interview with Taga Tarlac Ka Kung, signaling a shift towards a more responsive and accountable local government.

Yap, who is entering her first term as mayor, highlighted key priorities informed by her consultations with residents and observations from across the city. Among her immediate concerns is the Tarlac City Public Market, which she vowed to “resolve” swiftly, indicating a commitment to address any lingering issues at the vital commercial hub.

She also plans to tackle traffic congestion head-on.

“We’ve already started to work with experts on the traffic problem,” she stated, suggesting that a well-researched and strategic approach is underway to alleviate the city’s notorious bottlenecks.

Healthcare is another top priority for the incoming administration. Yap intends to improve health services across the board. This includes a thorough review of the Tarlac City General Hospital’s structure to ensure its optimal operation. She also plans a significant expansion of Rural Health Units (RHUs), with a goal to “build more RHUs to help more people,” making healthcare more accessible to communities.

Education is also high on Yap’s agenda. She aims to “elevate the quality of education here in the city” with specific programs like pushing for early reading initiatives for children and the ambitious establishment of a Tarlac City College. Complementing these educational efforts, Yap emphasized the importance of feeding programs to ensure the health and well-being of the city’s youth.

Yap also stressed the critical need for a cleaner environment.

“The environment of Tarlac City has to be cleaned so it’s safe for the people and to prevent dengue, leptospirosis,” she asserted, underscoring her commitment to public health through improved sanitation and waste management.
