AboitizPower activates first solar plant in Central Luzon

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (December 9, 2024) — Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower), through its renewable energy arm Aboitiz Renewables Inc. (ARI), has officially energized its 45-megawatt peak (MWp) Armenia Solar Project in Tarlac, marking its first solar power facility in Central Luzon.

The company announced in a statement that the plant became operational in late November. The project connects to the power grid via an 11.58-kilometer transmission line that passes through five barangays.

The Armenia Solar Project is AboitizPower’s fourth solar facility to go live, following the 59 MWp San Carlos Sun Power Plant in Negros Occidental, the 94 MWp Cayanga-Bugallon Solar Power Plant in Pangasinan, and the 159 MWp Laoag Solar Power Plant, also in Pangasinan.

In addition to its solar ventures, AP Renewables Inc., the geothermal arm of ARI, revealed that the Bay battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Laguna has signed an engineering, procurement, and construction contract with Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Co. Ltd. The Bay project is set to become the first hybrid system in the Philippines combining BESS with geothermal energy.

To date, AboitizPower has developed over 1,000 megawatts (MW) of capacity across various renewable energy sources. The company aims to expand its renewable energy portfolio to 4,600 MW by 2030.
