PANIQUI, Tarlac (October 14, 2024) — The local chief executive here revealed the reason why he is running for governor.
In an interview with the local media yesterday, Mayor Max Roxas said that townmate and Department of National Defense Secretary, Gibo Teodoro, convinced him to run for higher office.
“Ang nag-udyok sa akin para tumakbong gubernador ng Tarlac … si Secretary Gibo Teodoro dahil 2016 pa lamang pala ay mino-monitor na niya ako [at] kung ano ang nangyayari sa bayan ng Paniqui,” Roxas revealed.
According to Roxas, Teodoro told him recently in the latter’s office that he is choosing him for the gubernatorial post.
“Ikaw ang napupusuan ko at napili kong tumakbo bilang Ama ng lalawingan ng Tarlac,” Roxas quoted Teodoro as saying.
If he wins the gubernatorial post, the three-term mayor assured Tarlac Capitol employees that he will not remove any employee.
“Wala akong tatanggalin na empleyado, kakampi man o hindi — kaalyado man ng nakaupo ngayon — wala po akong tatanggalin,” Roxas said.
Roxas is contesting the seat opposite Rep. Christian Yap, son of outgoing governor, Susan Yap.
