CAPAS, Tarlac (Sept. 17, 2024) — This town topped the country’s Most Improved Municipality in the 2024 Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index (CMCI) while Concepcion leads all 1st and 2nd Class municipalities in the province for the second straight year.
The awarding body recognizes local government units that have made significant progress in their CMCI scores compared to the previous year. The CMCI is an annual ranking system that evaluates the competitiveness of Philippine cities and municipalities based on five key factors: economic dynamism, government efficiency, infrastructure development, resilience, and innovation.
The CMCI aims to build local competitiveness and help cities and municipalities become more competitive. The Department of Trade and Industry is the lead agency that conducts the annual assessment.
Capas bested the municipalities of Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte, and Gubat, Sorsogon which came as runners-up. Subic, Zambales ranked 10 in the category rankings.
Meanwhile, its sister town, Concepcion, started rising through the ranking after the election of Mayor Noel Villanueva as its local chief executive in 2022. It supplanted Moncada as the province’s top municipality in the Competitive Index. The towns of Capas, Victoria, Gerona, and Camiling are rounding up the top five.
Concepcion ranked 102nd among all first and second-class municipalities in the country. Capas ranked 112th while Victoria is 198th overall.
