TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (August 28, 2024) — The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) formally launched the eGovPH app and introduced its eLGU drive in the province of Tarlac.
The official launching of the DICT’s two-pronged digitalization drive in the province saw the attendance of close to 1,000 local government unit representatives from the province’s 17 towns and this host city.
DICT’s Government Digital Transformation Bureau director June Vincent Manuel Gaudan said that the agency is leading the way towards digital transformation.
“Ang atin pong presidente nung eleksyon ay nag-promise po siya na digitally transform ang Pilipinas. He said that digital transformation is the call of the day,” Gaudan said.
Last year, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. called for the country to be digitalized for improved business climate and to fight corruption.
“Digitalization is the call of today, not the call of the future, but of the present. It is here. It is needed, and it is needed today. Government must fully embrace digitalization to provide better service to the people, through its vital frontline services and its back-end functions.
“Digitalization will support the governmentās data-driven, science-based planning and decision-making. It is the greatest and most powerful tool, not just to improve ease of doing business, but also against many forms of graft and corruption,” Marcos said.
The eGov PH, also known as the e-Government Philippines, is a mobile application that simplifies transactions between the government and citizens. The platform integrates the multi-sectoral government through a one-stop online system that will minimize economic cost for the citizensādubbed as a super app by the DICT, the eGovPH mobile application is accepted as a primary ID since it contains the person’s digital copies of his National ID, Driver’s License, and passport. Other agencies issuing identification cards are also being integrated into the app.
The eGovPH app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store for free.
Meanwhile, the eLGU System is a single operating system for all government transactions to ensure ease of doing business, as part of the digital transformation of government towards more efficient, faster service delivery, and transparency in the country.
The eLGU will facilitate the ease of doing business in the local government unit by providing online services such as securing business permits, barangay clearance, working permits, building permits, real property tax, securing a cedula, and local civil registry, among others.
The overall objective of the eLGU project is to revolutionize local governance by making the LGUs electronically enabled thereby improving the delivery of public service, promoting transparency in government transactions, and increasing public access to government information services.
There are at least 1,634 LGUs already operating digitally, making government transactions easier and more efficient.
The eLGU system is also integrated into the eGovPH app.
