BAMBAN, Tarlac (July 30, 2024) — The president of the Association of Barangay Captains of this town might be installed as its mayor as suspended mayor Alice Guo is facing quo warranto proceedings.
In an interview, Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra said that the candidate who came in second in the 2022 local election will be the mayor.
“Kapag kasi dineclare na ineligible siya, na-grant yung petition for quo warranto ay ibig sabihin nun, to begin with, hindi siya (Guo) qualified na tumakbo as if wala siyang finile na Certificate of Candidacy.
Ang mag-a-assume ng kanyang position ay yung person who garnered the second highest number of votes noong kanilang election noong 2022,” Guevarra said.
Jose Salting Jr was pipped to the post by Guo only by 468 votes. Guo received 16,503 votes to Salting’s 16,035.
After he lost to Guo, Salting ran and won in last year’s Barangay and Sangguniang Bayan Elections as chairman of Anupul – the location of the raided POGO hub and the municipal building.
Tarlakenyo.com has reached out to Salting for comments but has not heard back from the Ex-officio Board Member.
The quo warranto petition filed by the Office of the Solicitor General before the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 34 aims to declare the suspended mayor ineligible to hold office.
Guevarra said that “she [Guo] is not a Filipino citizen. She is a Chinese national. Thus, she is ineligible to run for any elective public office.”
