Concepcion, SEC ink MOA vs investment scams

CONCEPCION, Tarlac (July 6, 2024) — The local government here and the Securities and Exchange Commission – Tarlac Extension Office (SEC-TAREO) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to boost financial literacy and safeguard local investors.

The partnership aims to bring essential SEC services directly to the local communities and enhance public awareness of sound investment practices.

Concepcion Mayor Noel Villanueva and SEC-TAREO Director Richard Laus led the signing of the MOA that will enhance cooperation and raise awareness in the SEC’s fight against investment scam prevention.

“Financial literacy is crucial for economic development and fighting illegal investment schemes. This partnership with the SEC will empower our citizens with knowledge and resources, helping them to avoid scams and invest wisely,” Villanueva said.

Laus also emphasized the importance of the partnership with the local government.

“This agreement represents our commitment to protecting investors and ensuring they are well-informed about their financial decisions. By working with local government units, we can reach more people and provide them with the necessary tools to make smart investment choices,” the SEC-TAREO Director said.

According to the SEC-TAREO, the collaboration is expected to serve as a model for other cities and municipalities, showcasing the positive impact of joint efforts between regulatory bodies and local governments.
