TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (April 2, 2024) – The Social Security System (SSS) and the Liga ng mga Barangay of San Jose and Victoria towns signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the security protection of almost 800 barangay workers.
SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Rolando Macasaet said that these temporary government workers will be registered as self-employed members under the SSS KaltaSSS Collect Program.
“Job Order and Contract of Service workers are not entitled to the benefits enjoyed by regular government employees and the services they rendered through the years can never be credited as government service,” Macasaet said.
According to Macasaet, temporary workers play an important role in the government.
“These workers play a vital role in attaining the government sector’s goals, yet they lack the benefits of regular employees. That’s why SSS is here to bridge this gap by providing them with adequate safety nets for future contingencies,” the SSS chief executive added.
During the Stakeholders’ Forum, Macasaet asked who among the barangay officials present did not have an SSS membership – about 100 stood up.
The SSS boss promptly endorsed them to the SSS-GSIS Pensyonado Partylist who paid P570 each for their insurance memberships.
“Ngayon ay lahat kayo ay SSS members na. It is my obsession to get everyone to be SSS members,” Macasaet said.
