GERONA, Tarlac (Dec. 2, 2023) — A P500,000 reward is reportedly being offered for the immediate arrest of the two suspects involved in the killing of a Punong Barangay on Nov. 30.
Plastado Barangay Chairwoman Edita Zarzuela and her husband Edgar were gunned down two days ago in neighboring Brgy. San Juan in Ramos town while riding their mountain bikes.
According to former Gerona Councilor Ronjie Daquigan, Gov. Susan Yap, 2nd District Congressional Rep. Christian Yap, and former Tarlac Governor Vic Yap are offering P250,000 for any information that can directly lead to the apprehension of the two Zarzuela killers. Mayor Eloy Eclar of Gerona also offers another P250,000 to bring the total reward to P500,000.
Gov. Yap issued a statement yesterday condemning the twin killings.
“I strongly condemn the brutal slaying of Edita and Edgar, and I call on our Philippine National Police to investigate with zeal and identify the perpetrators I also urge the PNP to create a Special Task Force for the swift resolution of this crime,” Yap said.
The police are looking for two suspects riding in tandem seen fleeing the crime scene. Low-resolution CCTV footage shows the two suspects on a motorcycle wearing balaclavas.
Police are still investigating the shooting incident and no possible motives were given.
