TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (Dec. 21, 2023) — The driver for the gunman in the double murder case of a Gerona Barangay Captain and her husband surrendered to local authorities yesterday.
According to former Gerona Vice Mayor Ronjie Daquigan, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to him and other members of the Tarlac police on Monday.
“Dalawang araw at dalawang gabi rin naming hinanap si Josh (not his real name) until we found him in Manila,” Daquigan said.
The authorities managed to convince Josh’s family to help them locate him in Manila.
Daquigan said that ‘Josh’ served as the motorcycle driver for the gunman, who was caught last week. Other persons believed to be involved were also detained.
Unconfirmed reports say that the murders stemmed from a land dispute involving a barangay official in Bamban, Tarlac, and his live-in partner.
Three-term Plastado, Gerona, barangay chairwoman Edita Zarzuela, and her husband Edgar, were both shot and killed last Nov. 30 in neighboring Brgy. San Juan in Ramos town while mountain biking.
