TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (June 15, 2023) — The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) gave the go-ahead to construct a 59.4-kilometer extension to the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx).
The NEDA Board chaired by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr evaluated and then approved the project in record time. The project was proposed on March 23 and approved on June 2.
“The TPLEX Extension Projectās swift approval demonstrates the President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. administrationās resolve to cut bureaucratic red tape and streamline government processes. This is critical to accelerating much-needed investments in infrastructure,” Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno said.
The P23.99 billion project will be constructed in three segments: the 18-kilometer Rosario to Tubao, the 23-kilometer Tubao to Naguilian, and the 18.4-kilometer Naguilian to San Juan.
The project is expected to promote the development of Northern Luzon and facilitate connectivity to Central Luzon and Metro Manila through high-speed mobility and secured access.
The NLEx extension is expected to cut the travel time from Rosario to San Juan, La Union from 96 minutes to only 42 minutes; about half of the current time it takes today.
The project is expected to be completed by 2028.
