Gibo is new defense chief

TARLAKENYO (June 5, 2023) — Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro was appointed as Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary by President Bongbong Marcos this afternoon.

This is Teodoro’s second stint as Defense Secretary after serving during the presidency of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from August 2007 to Nov. 15, 2009, becoming the youngest person to hold the position at 43.

The DND chief took over from Officer-in-Charge, Senior Undersecretary Carlito Galvez.

Born Gilberto Eduardo Gerardo Cojuangco Teodoro Jr, he ran for President in 2010 but lost to his second cousin Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. He also ran for Senator under the People’s Reform Party in 2022 but can only manage to place 15th out of 12 seats up for election.

Teodoro is a three-term First Congressional District of Tarlac Representative from Brgy. Carabaoan in Mayantoc town. When his term expired, his wife, Monica Prieto-Teodoro, succeeded him as First District Congressional Representative.

He topped the Bar Exams in 1989 and obtained a Master’s Degree in Law from Harvard University.
