Globe sent ‘extreme’ emergency notification to register SIM

TARLAKENYO (Apr. 23, 2023) — On April 23, Globe Telecom subscribers expressed their dissatisfaction on Twitter after receiving an emergency alert that wasn’t related to any disaster but rather a reminder for SIM registration. The alert was marked as ‘extreme’ for Android users, and every account received the same message.

The message instructed users to register their SIMs before April 26 to avoid deactivation. The registration process is free for Globe Prepaid, TM, and Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi customers, while Globe Postpaid and Platinum customers can register by texting SIMREG to 8080.

For company-owned Globe Business accounts, registration steps will be sent to authorized representatives. Some individuals on social media criticized Globe for using emergency alerts to remind people about SIM registration, stating that it was inappropriate.

Despite Globe’s request for an extension, the Department of Information and Communications Technology stated that there will be no extension beyond the April 26 deadline. However, according to the IRR of the SIM Registration Act, unregistered SIMs past the deadline can be reactivated within five days of automatic deactivation once registered.
