PURA, Tarlac (Jan. 21, 2023) — The Department of Agriculture (DA) started monitoring onion harvests in Central Luzon on January 16 even as the importation of 21,060 metric tons of red and yellow onions was approved by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The DA program started to monitor the farm gate prices of onions in Tarlac province since it is the leading supplier of of the produce in the Philippine market.
Market prices of onions remain high in the market which reach up to P700 per kilo.
The DA is hoping that the onion imports and the upcoming harvest season will bring down the prices of the produce.
Meanwhile, the agency has started distributing fertilizer vouchers worth P286 million to Tarlac farmers under the Rice Banner Program.
The beneficiaries are the farmers who planted rice during the 2022 wet season.
