COMELEC urges students to register as voters

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (Jan. 12, 2023) — With the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections scheduled later this year, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has conducted seminars in several provinces to encourage students to register as voters.

“We have successfully conducted the seminars to a total of 4,629 senior high school students in the provinces of Isabela, Cagayan, Negros Oriental, Tarlac, Bohol, Lanao del Norte, Davao, Zamboanga, and Capiz,” the Comelec said in a statement yesterday.

The poll body said it started visiting schools on Monday to hold voter education seminars, as well as satellite registration activities.

The COMELEC seminars discussed topics on the importance of exercising one’s right of suffrage, the process of voter registration, the qualifications and duties of elected officials in the barangay and SK, and the fight against disinformation in elections.

On October 30, 2023, the simultaneous barangay and SK elections will be held all over the country with 42,022 barangay captains and 294,154 barangay councilors positions up for grabs as well as the same number for SK Chairman and SK Councilors.
