PH swimmer breaks national record

NEW CLARK CITY, Tarlac (Oct. 16, 2022) — Philippine swimmer Thanya Dela Cruz has made it to two international tournaments after she recorded almost a Qualifying Time A at the PSI National Championships held here.

Dela Cruz recorded a time of 31.35 seconds in the women’s 50m breaststroke event to surpass the standard of 32.31 Budapest QTB and 32.11 Fukuoka QTB.

As a result, Dela Cruz qualified to swim in the 2022 SC World Swimming Championships in Australia in December and the 2023 LC World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

Dela Cruz also eclipsed the previous national record of 32.42 and surpassed the 2022 SEA Games gold medal time of 31.43 seconds.

The Philippine siren’s time is also close to the 31.22 QTA at the 2022 SC World Championships, and 31.02 QTA at the 2023 Fukuoka World Championships.
