TARLAC CITY, Tarlac — Genaro “Aro” Malvar Mendoza steps into the shoes of resigned City Councilor Pee Jay Basangan.
Tarlac Governor Christian Yap welcomed Mendoza alongside Tarlac City Mayor Susan Yap and several Sangguniang Panlungsod members, pledging full provincial support as the newly designated official takes on his responsibilities.
“Isang mainit na pagbati kay Konsehal Genaro “Aro” Malvar Mendoza sa kanyang panibagong yugto ng paglilingkod!” Governor Yap stated in a post.
“Magkasama nating isusulong ang mga programang magdadala ng tunay na malasakit at magandang kinabukasan para sa bawat pamilyang Tarlaqueño.”
The transition follows the vacancy left in the city council after Basangan resigned effective Aug. 29, 2026.
Under the Local Government Code, vacancies from a specific political group are filled by party nominees appointed by the provincial chief executive.
Mendoza topped the list of Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) contenders evaluated for the post, edging out four other party stalwarts to complete the local legislative roster.
Provincial officials expressed confidence that the collaboration between the provincial government and the city council will push forward development initiatives and public service programs for all residents.
