Child fatality under investigation in Barangay Surgui First, Camiling

CAMILING, Tarlac – A 4-year-old child has died in a tragic incident in Barangay Surgui First on September 6, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities.

According to an official statement released by the Barangay Government of Surgui First, the child’s father immediately went to the Barangay Hall and reported the alleged killing of his child. Barangay officials quickly responded and proceeded to the scene to assess the situation and ensure the safety of those involved.

Upon arrival at the location, responding barangay officials found the child already lifeless. Immediate response measures were carried out, and the incident was referred to the appropriate authorities to conduct a proper investigation and necessary legal processes.

The Barangay Government issued a strong appeal to the public regarding the dissemination of information about the incident: “Mariing ipinapaalala ng Barangay na ang anumang impormasyon tungkol sa insidente ay dapat dumaan sa tamang imbestigasyon ng mga awtoridad,”

The Barangay Government also expressed its solidarity with the victim’s family during this time of profound grief: “Nakiikisa ang Pamahalaang Barangay sa pamilya ng biktima sa panahong ito ng matinding pagdadalamhati. Nakahanda rin ang Barangay na makipagtulungan sa mga awtoridad upang makatulong sa maayos, makatarungan, at naaayon sa batas na pag-usisa sa naturang insidente.”

According to locals, selling bamboo shoots (labong) is among their main livelihoods, and they remember seeing the family together, still complete, before the tragedy.

Meanwhile, some of those interviewed in the area have claimed that the child’s own mother was the one who committed the act, and that she allegedly suffers from a mental condition. However, there is still no clear confirmation on this matter, as the investigation remains ongoing.

Local officials have confirmed that the child’s wake is currently being held at the Barangay Hall/Covered Court in Surgui First, where community members are gathering to offer their condolences and support to the bereaved family.

The Barangay Government reiterated its commitment to remaining ready in responding to any incident and to continuing its coordination with relevant authorities for the peace, security, and welfare of its residents.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death, as the investigation is still ongoing.
