Tarlakenyos to see total lunar eclipse tonight

TARLAKENYO (March 3, 2026) — The evening sky over Tarlac and the rest of the Philippines will transform into a celestial theater tonight, March 3, as a rare Total Lunar Eclipse will paint the moon in deep shades of crimson.

Residents across the province’s 17 municipalities and Tarlac City witnessed the moon rise at 5:58 PM already partially obscured by the Earth’s shadow.

Clear skies are expected tonight over the province.

The spectacle will reach its peak during the totality phase, which begins at 7:04 PM and lasts for approximately 59 minutes and 24 seconds.

At the height of the eclipse at 7:34 PM, the Earth’s umbral shadow will completely cover the moon. This interaction creates the “Blood Moon” effect, where the Earth’s atmosphere filters out shorter blue wavelengths of light and allows longer red wavelengths to pass through and reflect off the lunar surface.

Unlike the hazards associated with solar eclipses, this event was entirely safe to observe with the naked eye.
