Tarlac power outage prompts LGUs to suspend classes

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (Feb. 5, 2026) – Large swaths of Tarlac province are set to experience a 12-hour power outage tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 6, as the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) conducts its annual preventive maintenance at the Concepcion substation.

The scheduled interruption, which will run from 6:15 AM to 6:15 PM, has prompted several local government units to suspend face-to-face classes and shift to Alternative Delivery Mode of learning to mitigate the heat and lack of digital connectivity.

Affected areas include those served by Tarlac Electric Cooperative I (TARELCO I) and Tarlac Electric Inc. (TEI). According to the NGCP, the shutdown is necessary to facilitate vital maintenance and technical activities along the Concepcion-Camiling 69kV Line and the Concepcion-Luisita 69kV Lines 2 and 3, as well as work within the substation itself.

In Tarlac City, face-to-face classes from kindergarten to senior high school in public schools are suspended. A similar mandate for kinder to senior high school applies to both public and private institutions in Santa Ignacia, San Clemente, and Camiling. In Victoria, the suspension applies to both the primary and secondary levels in public schools.

Meanwhile, several municipalities have opted for a full suspension of classes across all levels for both public and private sectors. These include the towns of Pura, Paniqui, Ramos, Anao, Moncada, and San Manuel.

The NGCP stated that while the specific areas affected are determined by the respective electric cooperatives and distribution utilities, they will exert all efforts to restore power as scheduled or earlier if the works are completed ahead of time.

Residents and businesses seeking specific updates may contact TARELCO I at (045) 931-1000 or TEI via their hotline at (045) 606 1834.
