‘Parokya ng OWWA’ brings govt service to barangays

CONCEPCION, Tarlac (Feb. 12, 2023) — The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in coordination with the Public Employment Service Office of Concepcion, Tarlac, launched the Parokya ng OWWA in Barangays Corazon de Jesus and Talimundoc San Miguel here last Wednesday.

OWWA’s “Parokya” program empowers overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families right at their doorsteps, engaging with them in conversations and offering practical assistance as they venture into barangays with a mission to uplift OFW communities and create lasting change.

Under the program, OWWA will go to the farthest barangays to inform the people about the programs and services offered by the national government to OFWs to empower them to protect their rights while working outside the country.

OWWA provides various programs and services to OFWs, including:

Welfare Assistance – OWWA offers assistance to OFWs in distress, including repatriation, legal assistance, and counseling services.
Skills Training and Livelihood Programs – OWWA offers skills training programs to improve the capabilities of OFWs and their families and provides livelihood assistance to help them establish their own businesses.
Education and Scholarship Programs – OWWA offers scholarships for college and technical-vocational courses to the dependents of OFWs, providing educational assistance for both college and technical-vocational courses.
Social Benefits – OWWA offers social benefits such as disability and death benefits, medical and hospitalization assistance, and insurance coverage for OFWs and
their families.
Reintegration Programs – OWWA aids the reintegration of OFWs back into Philippine society through programs like employment facilitation, entrepreneurship development, and community development projects.

Overall, OWWA plays a crucial role in safeguarding the rights and welfare of OFWs and their families and in providing support for their sustainable reintegration into the Philippine society upon their return.
