DOST, NEUST launch first solar irrigation trailer in Tarlac to aid farmers

SAN MANUEL, Tarlac (September 18, 2025) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) teamed up with a Central Luzon university to provide a multi-purpose cooperative with a solar-powered irrigation trailer.

The DOST partnered with the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) in giving the Pagbiagan Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMC) here.

The irrigation unit is the first of its kind to be deployed in the region, with more set to be placed across the region.

NEUST President Rhodora Jugo outlined the project’s broader goals, which include improving irrigation access, increasing crop production, enhancing food security, promoting renewable energy, and reducing the environmental footprint of farming.

Ang provinces of Aurora, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, at Pampanga,” Jugo said.

The initiative is a key part of the DOST’s Community Empowerment through Science and Technology program. The program aims to uplift various sectors in Central Luzon by deploying innovative, science-based solutions to local challenges.

DOST Regional Director Julius Caesar Sicat explained the project’s core motivation, highlighting the economic burden on farmers.
