TARLAC CITY, Tarlac (July 4, 2025) ā The two state universities of Tarlac Province have made a significant impact at the PelikulAgraryo 2025 Regional Film Festival as they will represent the region in the nationals.
Tarlac State University (TSU) and Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) both secured top honors and earned the right to represent Central Luzon in the national competition.
The festival, organized by the Department of Agrarian Reform Central and Regional Film Festival (DARCFF), highlights stories of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries and the initiatives of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) — was held at the DAR Regional Office Conference Hall in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga, on July 1.
Tarlac State University’s Communication Arts students garnered significant recognition with their short film “Punla,” which was named Best Film in Central Luzon. The film, directed by incoming 4th-year Communication Arts student Clarise Ann Dacanay, tells the inspiring story of Lolita, a resilient farmer.
“Punla” also swept the acting categories, with Alyssa Moreno winning Best Actress for her portrayal of Lolita and Laurence Marimla securing Best Actor for his role as Lolita’s husband, Juan. Another TSU entry, “Hayag,” also participated in DARCFF 2025.
“I am still ecstatic after our win. I am dedicating this to all farmers and Tarlac State University,” Dacanay told Tarlakenyo.
Meanwhile, TAU’s Department of Development Communication celebrated a major victory as their student-produced film, “Rang-Ay,” was awarded Best Film in the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organizations category.
“Rang-Ay” also secured six other major awards, cementing its position as a strong contender for the national PelikulAgraryo competition in August. Another TAU film, “Hiraya,” also performed well in the provincial leg of the competition.
The PelikulAgraryo 2025 festival, themed “Pag-ani sa mga Pangarap: Mga Kwento ng Pag-asa at Tagumpay sa Agraryo,” aims to be an annual event celebrating creativity and DAR’s contributions, inviting tertiary-level communication or media-related students to participate.
The national winners for PelikulAgraryo 2025 are expected to be announced in August.
