WHAT’S ON: Eight Filipino ‘ulam’ among world’s best pork dishes

TARLAKENYO (June 4, 2024) – The TasteAtlas list of “Best Rated Pork Dishes in the World” includes a variety of globally recognized pork dishes, with some notable Filipino favorites.

From the Philippines, dishes such as lechon kawali, lechon, and Bicol Express are highly rated, showcasing the country’s rich culinary heritage and love for pork. These dishes are celebrated for their unique flavors and traditional preparation methods, making them stand out on the international stage.

Eight of the 100 pork dishes listed by tasteatlas.com are from the Philippines.

The top-ranked Filipino pork dish is the lechon kawali at No. 20. This is followed by lechon at No. 29 and the surprise No. 34 – Bicol Express from the southern part of Luzon.

Tarlac’s sisig is at No. 43. This dish is made from pork jowl and ears, pork belly, and chicken liver, which is usually seasoned with calamansi, onions, and chili peppers.

The world-famous Filipino staple adobong baboy is at No. 56, outranked by inihaw na liempo at No. 55.

Rounding out the eight Filipino pork dishes on the list are the No. 77 binagoongan and the No. 84 crispy pata.
