SolGen, NPC gathering evidence
BAMBAN, Tarlac (May 29, 2024) — In what seems to be an endless series of problems for embattled Mayor Alice Guo, a senator wants her expelled from her political party.
“(She) is not the type of member we want for our party. It is important that NPC
members have high integrity, and good moral conduct, and should not be linked to this kind of criminality,” Senator Win Gatchalian said today.
The Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) is yet to decide on the membership of Guo, who joined the party only in August last year.
According to NPC Chairman Tito Sotto, he is waiting for Gov. Susan Yap’s report on Guo.
Earlier, Gov. Yap said in a radio interview that she knew that Guo was a Filipino because she won the election as mayor of Bamban.
“As far as I know, she is a Filipino because she was able to run for public office, she was proclaimed, she has a Philippine passport; beyond that, as to the question of her nationality, hanggang dun lang ang alam ko,” Yap said.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Solicitor General said they are currently getting more evidence on Guo.
“We are presently consolidating evidence from various agencies and sources. Then we’ll evaluate and determine if there is sufficient factual basis to commence quo warranto proceedings.
“If she’s not a Filipino citizen, she cannot hold or continue to exercise public office,” Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra said.
